Stavanger Airport

... was at first fields used for aviation (Documented from 1923 and onwards) and Sea Plane Harbour (Sola Sjø), until the airport was opened as a real airport with solid runways in 1937.

During the pioneering days, preceding the airport, electric wires where taken down, and lot of the region was without power for days at a time, which people accepted, they felt so strongly for the heroes of the sky and where keen spectators as they conquered the skies above The Stavanger Region.

Model which shows Stavanger Airport, Forus ( In the foreground) and Stavanger Airport, Sola (In the background). The long road between them is taxiway Löwenstraße (Løwenstrasse), which had enormous amounts of air raid shelters and hangars for keeping The Third Rich's aircraft secure during bombing and air raid attacks. As all opportunities they can be used for the advantage or abused for destructive purposes by mankind. In 1940 Norwegian Nazis, aided by a German invasion seized power in Norway. Nazi sympathy was understandably strong due to the fact that Natzis fought against The Russian Invasion of Finland and that Great Britain then was a strong colonial power. Our airport facilities where used fighting Great Britain, in which history only can describe as a meaningless slaughter during the rage of WW2.

Stavanger Aiport, Sola was the first conquest through airborne attack, paratroopers landing and seizing and securing control of the airport. There is historical dispute whether an attack in Denmark was carried out 20 minutes before or after. The attack on Sola was although the largest airborne assault.

Here the enormous airport and runway system built during WW2 can be seen (From the opposite angle). The models where in use during ww2 for military planning.
