Scandinavian Airlines var lanseringskunde for Boeing 737-600-serien, 83 er kundenummeret til SAS hos Boeing, derfor 683-modeller. Denne flyversjonen er en viderutvikling av Boeing 737-500, hvor det større vingespennet og motokraften (som bla. gi økt rekkevidde) fra den nyeste generasjon Boeing 737 er tatt med (Selve 737-600 er basert på 737-700, som er en viderutviklet Boeing 737-300).

Scandinavian Airlines was the launch customer for The Boeing 737-600-models. A model wich in size is an evolution of the 737-500-model, the 737-600-models belong to the newest generation of The 737-family, and is based on the 737-700, wich, in it's turn is a derivative of the 737-300.
